About Math Annex Vienna

Founded in February 2009, the Math Annex is a center designed to support students of Vienna's international schools in Mathematics within a professionally organized and thoroughly executed training system. The primary target group are students from Grades 9 to 12. Units for younger pupils and University students are offered as well.

The sessions are held in very tight reference to the students' current classes in their respective international schools. The same books are used, current topics are treated and reviewed, test calendars are kept. The typical lesson frequency is once a week, 60 minutes.

The use of technology (calculators, computer programs) is an integral part of the lessons, either corresponding to their expected use in the course or granting a deeper access to the material.

Original documents or additional practice material from a variety of mathematical sources are distributed electronically for better understanding and more productive study time.

Students taking IB Mathematics courses in the two final school years can expect continuous competent support in all facets and challenges of the academic program. Since the Math Annex opening they have been the prominent majority of its student body.

The general goal is an overall deeper understanding and better application of the material, enabling the student to reach or maintain high grades with increasing ease, complete assignments successfully and be optimally prepared for final examinations and college entrance tests.

Three different types of units are offered: private tutorials, small groups (2 to 3 students) or large groups (up to 9 students). See Registration for further details. All types are also offered online.

In addition, special workshops and group sessions are offered, e.g. for final exam preparation, project tips and guidelines or technology support. These sessions are held within the same office building or, if requested by a local international school, within its own premises.

Until 2023, the Math Annex was situated in a large office building conveniently located right by the Heiligenstadt station (see map). Due to the sudden departure of the facility management company Regus, all office space contracts were ceased prematurely and a continuation of the tenancy was not offered by the owner. Premises of a similar nature have not yet been found in the same area but individual solutions, online sessions and alternate locations are guaranteeing a continuation of the thorough mathematical support so often needed.
